It cannot be said whether the movie helped the music to become a hit or vice-versa. But the producers of the movie, as well as those who bought the music rights, are rich. 2007 had been a good year for the Hindi film industry, with quite a few hit movies and a lot more hit music. Movies like Om Shanti Om topped the list of gross collection at the box offices, as well as had their songs playing at the number 1 spot on the top 10 songs of the week on radio stations, thus making it a double whammy! Similarly, the latter half of the year also saw movies like Welcome and Jab We Met, creating similar records.
Experiments started in the field of music with new singers coming up and soon the hit program of top ten hits started. Binaca Geetmala was the first in the series to present the top ten hits of the week. Now the television channels like MTV and channel V are presenting the hit tracks. Some songs become so popular with the masses that they never pass away. There are songs in the Hindi music industry that have created history. ‘Kajrare kajrare’ from Bunty aur Babli went to such heights that it rocked the country. Similarly ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba from Sholay was a super duper hit of its time. Now besides the film songs, private music albums are available.
FM channels, television and internet have contributed to the revival of the music industry. Top ten hits can now be downloaded anywhere in the world. This way the Indians living abroad now have easy access to music instead of waiting for long for the music to reach them. After downloading the songs one can decide whether to keep the songs, discard or add at will.
